What is SVT?

SVT is a trigger processor we are building as part of the CDF upgrade plan. It is designed to reconstruct tracks in the Silicon Vertex Detector (SVXII) and Central Tracking Chamber (COT) with enough speed and accuracy to be used at trigger level 2 to tag events containing secondary vertices from b decay. In most cases the simple requirement of one or two tracks with an impact parameter greater than a given threshold will provide an adequate rejection factor.

The University of Chicago group is responsible for construction of: the G-Link Receiver Transition Card, an aux card which translates the fiber optic readout of SVXII into TTL signals appropriate for PCBs; the Hit Finder Board, which interprets the SVXII readout and constructs clusters of charged strips appropriate for track fitting; and the Track Fitter Board, which constructs fitted tracks from XFT track segments and the SVXII clusters associated with them.
