Mechanical and Thermal Specifications for The QUIET ADC DAQ

The information below is intended to help design the weatherproof enclosure that will house and protect the ADC DAQ System and the Battery of Linear Power Regulators for QUIET. One can build one bigger enclosure for both or two smaller (and identical), one for each.

DAQ System:

The whole DAQ System in contained inside one WIENER 6023X610-P VIPA Crate (http://www.wiener-us.com).
The crate has the following dimensions: 19" (483mm) x 9U (397mm) x 540mm (deep). On the front there are 45mm handles.
Inside the crate there are: 1piece Crate CPU ~25W and up to 20 pieces ADC Boards ~20W each.
Note, this is in addition to the power dissipated by the crate itself.

There shall be enough space around, below and on top of the crate for the cooling air to circulate and  enough holes or cut-outs for the cooling air to get in and out and for the AC Power Cables and data cables to pass. Further the enclosure should protect the crate against any water (liquid) from rain or snow from outside.

We consider that it is enough if the temperature inside the crate is maintained within a 5C interval. (See some temperature tests results.)
In designing the temperature regulators, one should consider that the crate can be outfitted with up to 8 temperature sensors above the VME modules, measuring the exhaust air. Using this feature, one can adjust the fan speed. See WIENER(http://www.wiener-us.com) for details.

Linear Power Supplies:

We have a battery of up to 89 linear floating power regulators, required by the boards inside the Electronics Box: MMIC, PhSw, PreAmp and HKeeping.
We plan to use linear regulated supplies by Acopian (http://www.acopian.com).
We plan to use 86 supplies, each with the Case Size - EB13 of: 1.6" x 2.5" x 3.5" and 3 supplies each with the Case Size - EB20 of: 2.4" x 2.5" x 3.5".
They shall be installed on plates (10 - 20 supplies on a plate) and one can stack up the plates.
Each power supply shall have 1" or more around and on top for the air to circulate.
The enclosure shall allow for the linear power supplies a volume of about the same size as for the VME Crate.
In addition, a fan system for the power supplies shall be provided if needed.

The temperature requirements for the power supplies shall be the same as for the VME Crate and the same weather protection requirements apply.

The power dissipated by all the linear power supplies should be less than 150W.
