When installing a new version of Altera's MaxPlusII software, remember to put the license file in the directory of the new version of the software. The license file is called license.dat and can just be copied from the previous version of the software.
Customarily, we keep the last two versions of the software available. Before installing, be sure to delete the oldest version of the software that is on the machine.
New Information
Sometimes, MaxPlusII will take a very long time to startup on the PC. It's
also listed as "Not Responding" in the task manager. This is usually due to a
problem with the license file location. To fix this, edit the file D:\maxpls10.1\maxplus2.ini and add LM_LICENSE_FILE=D:\altera_license\license.dat.
Obsolete Information HP-UX
When upgrading to a new HP version of MaxPlusII, you must edit one of the Altera files, so that it will work with Mentor's Design Manager. The file is called:
dmgr_session_window.ample
and it is located in:
/net/altera/mentor/max2/userware/default/dme
The contents of this file should be the following:
$set_toolbox_search_path(["$MGC_HOME/toolbox","$MAX2_MENTOR/.toolbox"]);
The reason this is no longer needed is because there is no real reason to be
able to start MaxPluxII from Design Manager. If I wanted to put the Altera
icons back into Design Manager, I would need to add to the variable AMPLE_PATH,
the following:
/net/altera/mentor/max2/userware/default
And then I would have to add the toolbox to the toolbox search path (which is
what I was doing above). However, the new location for this file is:
$MGC_HOME/edg_ample_files/userware/dme/dmgr_session_window.ample
