We have accepted a vendors bid for the digital crate power supplies. These
supplies will be used in all 9U VME crates except those used for calorimeter
readout. The vendor will supply a 3U high rack mounted chassis with ASTEC VS8
series power supplies installed. A total of 6 models are planned to satisfy
all crate requirements. These ASTEC supplies consist of a standard 2500W
chassis with plug in modules to provide the different voltage/current
requirements. This will provide a flexible system which can be upgraded if an
additional voltage or additional current is required down the road.
Prior to start of production we would like to verify that the model selections
will satisfy your needs. To this end, Sam has updated the spreadsheet of
crate power supply needs including the following new information:
1. Updates of current requirements based on the latest information that
you
have provided him.
2. A list of voltages and currents for each of the six power supply mode
ls.
3. The power supply model assigned to each crate type has been
included in the global list of crates and voltages.
The spread sheet can be found from:
1. Sam's ftp site: ftp://ncdf03.fnal.gov/public
2. On the fermilab winserver at:
U:\segler\crates\public\cc_power_needs_psxx.xls
Please review the spreadsheet and respond by Wednesday Oct 14.
In particular:
1. Is the information about your system(s) accurate?
2. Are your needs being met by the power supply model specified?
There are two crates where we know that the vendor selections need to be
changed:
L2 Decision needs 9A @ -5.2V but is only provided 10A, this is marginal
SVT Track Fitter needs 64A @ 3.3V but is only provided 60A, this is past
marginal. The vendor is aware of both of these problems.
Your prompt attention is needed to avoid further delays in the power supply
order.
Thanks,
Peter, Sam and Stan
